The Tokyo Olympic champion finished sixth in the high jump at the Herculis Meeting in Monte Carlo, the tenth round of the Wanda Diamond League. The high jumper from the Marche region, making his comeback 299 days after his last competition, cleared 2.23m but failed three times at 2.26m. The other Italian competitor, Matteo Sioli (Fiamme Azzurre), also cleared 2.23m.
