Dubai (United Arab Emirates), 12 July (LaPresse) – In the attack in the Strait of Hormuz, a Cypriot-flagged container ship was struck by Iran and sustained “significant damage to the engine room”. One civilian crew member is missing, according to a report from US Central Command earlier today. All crew members, including the missing one, were Indian nationals, according to the Indian Ministry of External Affairs. India has condemned the attack and stated that it is cooperating with Oman on a search and rescue operation. It has also called for navigation through the strait to be “free and unhindered”. The UK Maritime Trade Operations centre, overseen by the British armed forces, stated that the vessel was sailing along a route skirting the coast of Oman. This is the route that ships have always followed to enter and exit the Persian Gulf whilst avoiding Iranian territorial waters.
