Iran: media reports suggest some ships are passing through the Strait of Hormuz with tracking systems switched off

Turin, 13 July (LaPresse) – In recent days, some ships have passed through the Strait of Hormuz in secret, despite the fact that detectable transits had virtually ceased following renewed tensions between the United States and Iran. According to preliminary data from Kpler, analysed by Bloomberg, all six merchant ships that crossed the Strait of Hormuz on Sunday did so with their transponders switched off, making it impossible to track their route via standard tracking systems. Over the previous three days, ‘stealth’ crossings – that is, those with the identification system deactivated – outnumbered those carried out with transponders switched on.
