Rome, 13 July (LaPresse) – “This is an important day, in an important week, which concludes with the 34th anniversary of the Via D’Amelio massacre that killed Judge Paolo Borsellino and five members of his security detail. A day that places an even greater responsibility upon us, because this is a city whose history has contributed to the identity and civic conscience of our nation as a whole. It is a place where the State has demonstrated, perhaps more than anywhere else, its resolve not to back down when truly difficult times arose, and not to back down in the face of Mafia violence. “It is a message that we take to heart and strive to carry forward.” So said the Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni, speaking at the meeting of the Provincial Committee for Public Order and Safety, held at the Prefecture of Palermo. “Anyone who thinks they can drag Palermo backwards, anyone who thinks they can terrorise those who work honestly, will find themselves up against a determined State that reacts and strikes back,” concluded Meloni.
