Milan, 14 July (LaPresse) – A major anti-Mafia operation was launched at dawn today by the Reggio Calabria District Anti-Mafia Directorate (DDA), which coordinated investigations by the Carabinieri and the State Police into the long-established ‘Ndrangheta clans of the De Stefano, Tegano and Condello families, as well as other factions, some of which are involved in drug trafficking and operate in the Reggio Calabria area. A total of 79 individuals have been subject to precautionary measures, 73 in prison and 6 under house arrest, all under investigation, on various counts, for the offences of mafia association, criminal association for the purpose of illicit drug trafficking, extortion, the illegal carrying and possession of firearms – aggravated by the use of mafia methods and by aiding the ‘ndrangheta – and robbery. The investigations have shed light on the clans’ financial interests, ranging from drug trafficking to extortion targeting shopkeepers and business owners.
