Rome, 14 July (LaPresse) – “After four years, we now find ourselves with a country that has zero growth despite the PNRR investments, a decline in industrial production for three years running; we have some of the lowest wages in Europe and some of the highest utility bills in Europe, and waiting lists that are getting longer. After four years and zero reforms, the Government and the ruling coalition have decided to bring Parliament to a standstill in order to change the rules of the game, whilst also tabling an unconstitutional electoral law that completely deprives citizens of the freedom to choose their own candidates – a total farce. And in the midst of all this, what is Giorgia Meloni personally doing with Fratelli d’Italia? Yet another farce: she’s tabling an amendment for bogus preferential votes – a fraudulent amendment designed to make people believe she wants preferential voting. Had it passed, we wouldn’t have had preferential voting at all; we would have had 80 to 90 per cent of Parliament pre-selected by party secretariats, with only a tiny fraction chosen by the public.” So says M5S leader Giuseppe Conte. “The charade has been exposed and they’ve been defeated; Giorgia Meloni has therefore been voted out of office, Fratelli d’Italia, by the majority itself, by the other parties, by the MPs,” he added. “There is only one thing to do: if this government has any dignity, if it retains even a modicum of political dignity and a sense of honour and institutional and constitutional duty, then tonight – not tomorrow, but tonight – it must go immediately to the Quirinale to tender its resignation to the Head of State.”
Electoral law, Conte: ‘If Meloni has any sense of honour, she must resign’
