Milan, 15 July (LaPresse/AP) – A man who fled a check carried out by immigration officers and other federal forces in Florida was struck and killed by a articulated lorry. Local authorities have reported this, stating that the man was 28 years old and was one of four occupants of a vehicle that had stopped in the car park of a petrol station and convenience store in St Augustine before 7 am on Tuesday morning. The police report that, during the check by officers from US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Homeland Security Investigations, the four fled on foot. According to the police, one of them ran across a busy road and ended up in the path of the lorry. The driver of the articulated lorry stopped and tried to help the man. This is the third death in a week linked to ICE officers, and the tenth since US President Donald Trump launched his mass deportation campaign last year. The Department of Homeland Security confirmed that it had carried out an operation and stated that the Florida Highway Patrol and Homeland Security Investigations were “investigating an incident that resulted in the death of a Mexican national”.
