Milan, July 17. (LaPresse) – Before entering Bollate prison, where he turned himself in at 4:45 p.m., Mario Roggero responded to reporters who asked him what President Sergio Mattarella would say: “In short, he pardoned a smuggler who killed thirty people, he pardoned Minetti, so I think Mattarella should get his hands on his conscience.” The 72-year-old jeweler from Grinzane Cavour, in the Cuneo area, was sentenced to 14 years and 9 months in prison for killing two robbers and wounding a third during a robbery at his jewelry store on April 28, 2021. “I would expect a pardon,” Roggero continued. “This morning my wife filed a request for a pardon, even requesting a temporary suspension of her sentence, but no response was received within seven hours.” The pardon request adds to the request for a deferral of the sentence filed by the lawyers after the conviction was confirmed by the Supreme Court of Cassation on Wednesday.
