Milan, 18 July (LaPresse) – It’s him again, Tadej Pogacar once more. The Slovenian star of UAE Team Emirates has also won the 14th stage of the Tour de France, the 155.3 km Mulhouse–Le Markstein stage, further consolidating his hold on the yellow jersey as race leader. This is Pogacar’s fourth stage victory in this year’s Tour. Having controlled the race all day, with 7.4 km to go Pogacar made his move and attacked on the final slopes of the Col du Haag after catching the last escapee, the Ecuadorian Olympic champion Richard Carapaz (EF Education – Easypost). The only rider to try and keep up with the Slovenian’s gruelling pace was Jonas Vingegaard (Team Visma Lease a Bike), but in the end even the Dane had to concede defeat, finishing fourth behind the Mexican Isaac del Toro (UAE Emirates XRG) and the French hopeful Paul Seixas (Decathlon CMA CGM), who were both +0.38″ behind Pogacar. Vingegaard arrived shortly afterwards, +0.44‘ behind, followed by the Belgian Remco Evenepoel (Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe), +0.48’ behind. In the general classification, Pogacar has extended his lead over Vingegaard, who now trails by +4’30‘; Evenepoel is third at +5’04’, ahead of Seixas at +5’19”. Tomorrow’s 15th stage, the 183.9 km Champagnole–Plateau de Solaison, features yet more climbs to tackle and offers Pogacar the chance to continue to dominate.
