Rome, 19 July (LaPresse) – “Thirty-four years have passed since the mafia murdered Judge Paolo Borsellino and five members of his security detail: Emanuela Loi, Claudio Traina, Vincenzo Li Muli, Walter Eddie Cosina and Agostino Catalano. And for thirty-four years we have continued to seek the truth, alongside a growing wave of people who refuse to give up and are fighting against crime, corruption and cover-ups, because that sacrifice, far from neutralising Borsellino’s work, has awakened the consciences of so many. But remembrance is not enough; we must strengthen, on the one hand, the work of the judiciary and law enforcement agencies and, on the other, our cultural and social defences, whilst also supporting local authorities and those working on the front line – without cutting the funds they need to implement social policies. Because it is only where the state is present and functioning that the power vacuums filled by the mafia are prevented.” So said PD Secretary Elly Schlein.
