Turin, 20 July (LaPresse) – “For nearly seven decades, the Cuban regime has waged a relentless campaign of subversion against the United States.” This is the accusation levelled by the US State Department in a report entitled ‘Cuba, the Capital of 21st-Century Communism’. “This is a campaign,” the report states, “that has infiltrated the highest levels of the US government, recruited and trained generations of American activists, supported an unprecedented wave of far-left terrorism on American soil, and carried out one of the longest-lasting and most damaging foreign intelligence penetrations in US history.” “The Cuban campaign against America is unique,” the US State Department explains further. “It is irregular and clandestine: even at the height of its military power, Havana never possessed the capacity to defeat the United States in a conventional armed conflict. Instead, the Cubans have perfected a new model of protracted war of attrition, organised around espionage, infiltration, sabotage, networks of intermediaries and a revolutionary infrastructure designed to turn America against itself.”
