Turin, 20 July (LaPresse) – Achille Polonara is to join the coaching staff at Halley Campania Avellino Basket, a club competing in Serie A2. The Irpinia-based club announced this in a statement. On 16 July, the former Italian international received his coaching licence with the qualification of National Coach. “First and foremost, I’d like to thank Halley Campania Avellino Basket for offering me this tremendous opportunity,” said Polonara, who retired from basketball a few months ago after being diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia in May 2025. “I can’t wait to get started; the team has taken shape, with just one player still needed to complete the squad. Personally, I’m really excited and happy to be able to embark on this new experience and to work alongside Coach Di Carlo and the other members of the coaching staff.” “I am proud to announce our club’s partnership with Achille Polonara, the result of a deep mutual respect that developed during the months we had the honour of hosting him in Avellino,” added club president Giuseppe Lombardi. “As he embarks on his first role as an assistant coach, we are delighted that he is wearing the white and green colours and are confident that this could mark the start of a new and rewarding career that we will begin to build and experience together.
