Rome, 21 July (LaPresse) – Sixty-four members of the police force were injured, with recovery times ranging from 3 to 35 days, during the serious disturbances that took place last night in the centre of Bologna during the demonstration over the death of Abderrahim Fakir, the 43-year-old who died in Pilastro during a police operation, in which he had been pinned to the ground and handcuffed. This was announced by the Bologna Police Headquarters, which also reported damage to six State Police vehicles. The Police Headquarters reported damage to shop windows, banks and cash machines in the streets adjacent to Piazza Maggiore, where the demonstration had begun. Six rubbish bins were also damaged; two cars were set alight, whilst dozens of bicycles – which, according to the police’s account, had been used to create a barrier and hinder the officers’ intervention – were destroyed. A tramway construction site was also completely devastated.
