Washington (USA), 22 July (LaPresse) – US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth has told Congress that the war in Iran has so far cost $37.5 billion. Hegseth faced protests during his hearing before the US Senate ahead of a $95 billion Republican Party budget package intended to fund the armed forces, alongside aid for farmers and changes to electoral law, which are the White House’s main priorities. Hegseth provided the new estimate, which is higher than the previous one, whilst testifying before the Senate Appropriations Committee. Hegseth’s hearing comes just days after the Pentagon announced that a further 3 US billion had died in the conflict, bringing the total number of US soldiers killed to 17, whilst more than 100 have been wounded since the start of July.
