Rome, 22 July (LaPresse) – As part of efforts to combat the online sexual exploitation of children, the Milan State Police have concluded an operation that led to the arrest of six people for possession of child pornography and the filing of charges against a further three, from whom a substantial amount of digital material used for the illegal activities was seized. The investigation, conducted by the Lombardy Cyber Security Operations Centre under the direction of the Milan Public Prosecutor’s Office, with operational coordination from the National Centre for Combating Online Child Pornography (CNCPO) of the Postal and Cyber Security Police Service, was launched in December 2025 and enabled the continuous monitoring and tracking of online channels used for the transnational distribution of illicit material; in particular, thanks to collaboration with an international non-profit organisation, accounts were identified through which child pornography videos and images had been shared and downloaded. Those arrested – two residents of Milan, two in the province of Lodi, one in the province of Como and one in Naples – aged between 40 and 64, were found in possession of a vast quantity of child exploitation material. A vast amount of digital material was seized during the searches – over 200,000 files – comprising images and videos. The operation, carried out with the participation of the Operational Units of the Postal Police in Brescia, Varese, Mantua, Pavia, Bergamo and Como, as well as the Cyber Security Operations Centre in Naples, highlights the Postal Police’s ongoing commitment to monitoring the internet to protect children.
