The first two weeks of the month are forecast to see the heaviest traffic flows toward the country’s main tourist destinations, with congestion expected to build from Friday and continue throughout Saturday. In particular, the morning hours of Saturday, August 1, and Saturday, August 8, marked with the highest-level black traffic alert, are expected to be the most critical periods. The Traffic Police and the Carabinieri will increase the number of patrols. On the busiest travel days, they will monitor highways and major extra-urban roads, including with aerial surveillance using helicopters and other aircraft. To strengthen efforts against driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, roadside checks will be intensified along routes leading to major tourist destinations. Particular attention will also be given to combating petty crime in motorway service areas and parking facilities. Road authorities and motorway concessionaires will reinforce traveler assistance services to ensure the highest possible level of safety and the best traffic conditions.
