Milan, July 22 (LaPresse) – Abderrahim Fakir “was still alive, although in critical condition,” when Italian Red Cross volunteers arrived, “less than a minute later, roughly 30 seconds” after the police operation ended on the evening of July 19 in Bologna, according to information obtained by LaPresse regarding the intervention of the volunteers. The volunteers determined that “there was still a heartbeat, however faint,” and immediately began cardiopulmonary resuscitation while waiting for the emergency physician to arrive. The two volunteers were not healthcare professionals but trained first responders qualified to provide emergency first aid. Chest compressions, including the use of a defibrillator—which has since been seized as part of the investigation—continued until the arrival of the 118 emergency medical doctor.
