Rome, 22 July (LaPresse) – Mario Roggero will remain in prison. The Court of Turin has rejected the application for a suspension and deferral of sentence submitted by the defence lawyers of the jeweller from Grinzane Cavour, who was definitively sentenced to 14 years and 8 months for killing two of the three robbers who had recently carried out a robbery at his shop. In the grounds for the decision, the judge noted that the relief sought is intended for situations other than the one in question, as it is designed for cases where the sentence has not yet been served and, generally, concerns sentences of limited duration. In Roggero’s case, however, his imprisonment is already underway following his admission to Bollate Prison. The ruling also adds that no elements of particular urgency or necessity have emerged that would justify immediate action, and that any assessment of a possible deferral must be referred to the Supervisory Court. The same application had previously been submitted to the Supervisory Court in Milan.
