Brussels, 23 July (LaPresse) – “I welcome the agreement on the 21st package of sanctions against Russia. At a time when Ukraine has gained military momentum, our sanctions continue to undermine the economic foundations of Russia’s war effort. We have added a further 32 Russian banks to our list of entities subject to a transaction ban. The same applies to cryptocurrency companies and oil trading platforms. We have frozen the adjustment of the oil price cap for one year, so that the Russian war machine cannot capitalise on market shocks. For the first time, we are targeting vessels supporting Russia’s shadow fleet. And we have taken an important step towards formally banning Russian combatants from entering the EU.” European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen wrote this on X. “My heartfelt thanks to the Irish EU Presidency for facilitating this agreement,” she added.
