New York, 24 July (LaPresse) – Representatives of the 125 States Parties to the International Criminal Court (ICC) have voted to remove Chief Prosecutor Karim Khan from office. Two diplomatic sources confirmed this to the Associated Press. The 56-year-old British lawyer is accused of sexually harassing a female colleague, allegations which he has consistently denied. This is the first time in the Court’s history that a Chief Prosecutor has been removed from office. Khan had been temporarily suspended from his duties last June, after a report by the ICC’s oversight body concluded that he had committed “serious misconduct”. According to documents seen by the Associated Press, he is alleged to have had a sexual relationship with the woman and to have tried to prevent her from pursuing the allegations. The prosecutor denies these claims.
