This was stated by the French Minister of the Interior, Laurent Nunez, as reported by *Le Monde*, who added that 14,000 hectares of forest have been destroyed. “We are facing an unprecedented situation,” said Nunez, emphasising that the scale of the fire is far greater than that of the incidents recorded in 2023. The minister explained that a change in wind direction had transformed the blaze into a convective fire, capable of feeding on itself and generating its own air currents, driving the flames eastwards towards the Bordeaux metropolitan area. Nunez also announced the closure of Bordeaux airport and the deployment of military reinforcements and security forces to support the fire-fighting operations. “We must now deploy military personnel and internal security forces to Bordeaux,” he said.
