Iran, Araghchi: ‘No goodwill on the part of the US’

Turin, 25 July (LaPresse) – Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has stated that Iran has seen “no goodwill” on the part of the United States, criticising what he described as Washington’s promotion of a new maritime route in place of the one designated by Tehran in the Persian Gulf. Speaking on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation’s foreign ministers’ meeting in Kyrgyzstan, Araghchi said it was “significant” that the United States had opened a new route and insisted that ships use it. Iran, he added, has evidence of communications with ships that intended to use the route designated by Tehran, encouraging them instead to take a southern route.
