Rome, 25 July (LaPresse) – Noah Lyles put in a superb performance at the US Athletics Championships, where he ran the 100 metres in 9.79 seconds – a season’s best – beating the 9.82 seconds set by Jamaican Oblique Seville in June. Lyles also improved on his personal best, set at the 2024 Paris Olympics. “I think this is the statement: ‘I’m still the fastest man in the world’,” said Lyles after the race, in which he finished ahead of Ronnie Baker in second place and Kenny Bednarek in third. “Just because it’s a gap year doesn’t mean I’m going to run slowly,” added Lyles, referring to the fact that there will be no Olympics or World Championships this year.
