Milan, 26 July (LaPresse) – The suspect wanted by German police in connection with last night’s events in Berlin is reported to have attempted to travel to Syria to join ISIS and was consequently arrested at Berlin Airport in late 2025 whilst returning from Lebanon. This is according to various German media outlets. The man, identified as Abdul B., is reported by investigative sources to have remained in custody until May 2026 on charges of preparing a terrorist offence. He is said to have come to the attention of the authorities as early as his teenage years within Berlin’s Islamist circles and to have been flagged by the security services from the age of 16. The Süddeutsche Zeitung reports that he was ordered to take part in a deradicalisation programme and, according to investigative sources, was subsequently placed under partial surveillance and had his telephone monitored. After posting a photo of a weapon on social media, a search was carried out at his home, but the weapon turned out to be a toy.
