Rome, 28 July (LaPresse) – “Until there is a lasting ceasefire, we will not be able to take part in any international mission.” This was stated by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani, speaking about the mission in the Strait of Hormuz, during a hearing on the outcomes of the NATO summit held in Ankara on 7–8 July before the joint Foreign Affairs and Defence Committees of the Chamber of Deputies and the Foreign Affairs and Defence Committee of the Senate. “The missions we have agreed to take part in are always linked to international decisions; we will never go it alone to participate in military-style initiatives,” Tajani went on to clarify. “With regard to the Strait of Hormuz,” he added, “we intend to press ahead with all measures in support of a negotiated agreement; today there is due to be a meeting of the Gulf States to see how we can find a common position and strengthen the dialogue” between the US and Iran.
