Rome, Jul. 29 (LaPresse) – Regarding the escalation of settler violence in the West Bank, “it is not easy” to stop them “if the Israeli government allows them to act. Some extremist ministers in Netanyahu’s government support them: think of Ben Gvir. We have pushed for sanctions. We condemn the settlers, their violence and what they are doing against Palestinian civilians. And we are opposed to any annexation of the West Bank territory. We will sign a document with the Saudis condemning attacks by Israeli settlers. And the E4 leaders – Italy, France, Germany and the United Kingdom – could do the same.” Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani said this in an interview with Repubblica. “Being friends with Israel and defending its right to exist does not mean justifying the violence of settlers, which weakens the country’s position and image. We will not give up, despite the difficulties. We support ‘two peoples, two states’. Israel knows our position and this does not prevent it from participating with Lebanon in the Rome summit,” he added.
