The deputy governor of Rethymno, Maria Lioni, speaking on ERTnews, announced the evacuation of Agia Galini, from which around 8,000 people have been evacuated. The operation was carried out on the ground with the assistance of the police. Aerial resources are unable to operate due to strong winds. Throughout the night, fire crews worked to contain the flames, which have devastated farmland, pastures, farms, homes and livestock. Late yesterday evening, an evacuation warning was also issued for the villages of Agalianos, Kerames and Agia Paraskevi. According to the images available so far, the damage is extensive.
