New York (United States), 30 July (LaPresse/AP) – Elon Musk’s company ‘xAI’ has decided to take legal action against the US state of Minnesota over a state law – the first of its kind in the United States – which bans ‘doxxing’ technology on websites and apps. The lawsuit was filed on Monday 27 July in a federal court and could serve as a test case to determine the extent to which states can go in constitutionally regulating the use of artificial intelligence. Musk’s company argues that the Minnesota law is overly broad and bans many images and videos protected by the Constitution. The law differs from state and federal laws that typically penalise those who use artificial intelligence tools to create sexually explicit deepfakes. xAI has stated that its terms of service for the use of Grok prohibit the use of the software for illegal, harmful or abusive activities, including ‘nudification’.
