Naples, 1 Aug. (LaPresse) – The number of people injured following the 4.7-magnitude earthquake that struck the Campi Flegrei yesterday evening has been updated to 26. Of these, 21 are being treated at the Santa Maria delle Grazie Hospital in Pozzuoli, and 5 at the San Giuliano Hospital in Giugliano in Campania. In addition to the collapse of several unoccupied buildings, the quake caused damage to other structures and, according to the Civil Protection Department, around 300 people have had to leave their homes. “At this time, the fire service and technical experts are continuing to assess the built-up area, and it cannot be ruled out that this number may rise,” hence the Department’s appeal to the public “to report any possible damage to their homes”. Meanwhile, the maritime authorities and RFI are working to resolve the problems reported at the port of Pozzuoli and on the Cumana railway line, which is currently suspended on the Bagnoli–Torregaveta section.
