Rome, Aug. 2 (LaPresse) – “There is no such thing as an ‘Albania model’. The migrant return centres in Albania are a tragic economic and operational failure. Return centres must be established in Italy’s regions. In these centres, irregular migrants who commit crimes and who today receive a ‘removal order’ and return to commit crimes should be held until their expulsion.” Action leader Carlo Calenda wrote this on social media, commenting on press reports about a possible Italian proposal at the extraordinary meeting of EU interior ministers scheduled for Tuesday to create new hubs financed with European funds and located almost entirely in Africa. “This is the work that needs to be done but is not being done because regions and municipalities oppose it and because this government always chooses politics over institutional action. Be serious. These electoral stunts will achieve nothing,” he added.
