I see many mayors and local administrators from across Italy here today, and that is a powerful response. We are, and will continue to be, alongside the association of the victims’ families, which for more than 40 years – now 46 – has fought to bring the full truth to light. And we will not allow anyone to try to rewrite history, a history established by court rulings obtained over the years thanks to the work of the victims’ families’ association and the Bologna Prosecutor General’s Office, to whom we owe deep gratitude for pursuing truth and justice to the very end, including in the trial of those who masterminded the attack.” This was stated by Democratic Party secretary Elly Schlein. “Those rulings clearly state that it was a massacre of neo-fascist origin, carried out with subversive intent and also involving rogue elements within state institutions. Now, starting from those rulings – which must be published and thoroughly studied – the search for truth and the necessary further investigations must continue, as the victims’ families also called for today,” she added. “We will be there, and as the Democratic Party we will do our part in all the necessary further inquiries, because those rulings reconstruct a fundamental chapter of this country’s shared history, and we must continue to insist on that. They are also right to demand all the responses owed to them through the full implementation of the law on victims. We will therefore continue to press forward together with them, because the truth is first and foremost a right of the victims’ families, but it is also a right of every Italian citizen.
