Rome, 3 August (LaPresse) – The ruling by the Milan Court of Appeal, which orders the closure of the hot area of the former Ilva steelworks, “has triggered a ‘social bomb’, because the conditions imposed are considered technically impossible to meet within 90 days. The commissioners will therefore be forced to proceed with the shutdown of the hot-area plants. We must try to defuse it. To succeed, we need the utmost responsibility from everyone and immediate action: we only have a few days left.” This was stated by the Minister for Enterprises and Made in Italy, Adolfo Urso, in an interview with Quotidiano Nazionale.
“We have convened a series of meetings with all the parties involved. Naturally, we are starting with the trade unions, as agreed at the Palazzo Chigi meeting, in order to prepare an extraordinary plan that will mitigate, as far as possible, the production and employment consequences,” he explained. “Then we will meet with the companies in the supply chain, which will suffer the first and immediate impact of the ruling. Some have already announced the suspension of their activities.”
