Barcelona (Spain), 3 Aug. (LaPresse/AP) – Mauricio Pochettino is to remain in charge of the US national football team. The 54-year-old manager, who took up the post in October 2024, has extended his contract for a further four years, until the 2030 World Cup. “The magic that was created during the World Cup, the bond with the people – and, of course, with the organisation and everything else – was crucial,” said the former Tottenham and PSG manager during a remote press conference from his home in Barcelona. “What we’ve learnt is that we can compete, that we have the quality and the talent. We came so close; the gap between us and the world’s best teams isn’t that wide.” At the last World Cup, the USA were knocked out in the round of 16, losing 4–1 to Belgium.
