Milan, Aug. 4 (LaPresse) – “Today, the Council of Ministers is expected to approve, on first reading, the delegated decree reforming the Court of Auditors. From our perspective, a hasty approval could jeopardize the independence and autonomy of the Court of Auditors.” So said Donato Centrone, President of the Association of Court of Auditors Judges, at a press conference held at the headquarters of the Foreign Press Association in Italy regarding the implementation of the delegated decree to reform the Court of Auditors, which is scheduled to be reviewed by the Council of Ministers today. “We believe the government must give due consideration to the adoption of measures that affect the organization of the Court of Auditors and the exercise of its functions, particularly with regard to the powers of the Attorney General,” added Centrone, specifying that “as the Association of Magistrates of the Court of Auditors, we have requested and reiterated a call for reflection and a request for a meeting with the Prime Minister.” The government, Centrone added, “could engage with us; we could coordinate by taking advantage of a brief postponement that would also make use of the summer recess.” In particular, Centrone added, “there are two overarching needs in the unfortunate event that the government adopts the decree”—namely, to discuss the provisions concerning “the regional and central organization of functions,” and to offer “input on certain provisions, starting with the review of the powers of the Attorney General.”
