European Long-Distance Championships: Paltrinieri Fourth in the 10 km, Gold for Wellbrock

Rome, Aug. 4 (LaPresse) — Just like at the Olympics, the Seine River dealt a blow to Italy’s men’s long-distance team. In the 10 km race at the European Championships in Paris, there was no Italian podium finish, with Gregorio Paltrinieri placing fourth behind Germany’s Florian Wellbrock (gold), Hungary’s David Betlehem (silver), and Germany’s Oliver Klemet (bronze). The Italian champion fell behind at the decisive moment, and his strong late surge—which saw him climb from eighth to fourth place—was not enough. Marcello Guidi finished fifth after losing contact with the leading group on the final lap, while Andrea Filadelli placed seventh.
