The FIFA President was democratically elected by FIFA’s Member Associations and continues to serve under their mandate.” This was stated in a press release by a FIFA spokesperson regarding the controversy surrounding Gianni Infantino’s governance and the controversy relating to the upcoming elections within world football’s governing body. “It is increasingly evident,” FIFA states, “that there is a concerted and ongoing effort by some to undermine FIFA and its President. Those who do not enjoy the support of FIFA’s Member Associations should not seek to achieve through accusations, insinuations or misinformation what they cannot achieve through FIFA’s established democratic processes.
