(LaPresse/AP) – The Canadian province of British Columbia declared a state of emergency on Saturday after a rapidly spreading wildfire destroyed homes and forced more than 20,000 people to flee communities along Lake Okanagan in western Canada, with dozens of people being airlifted to safety. British Columbia’s Premier, David Eby, declared a state of emergency as more than 100 wildfires raged across the province, nearly half of which were out of control due to the heat, wind and a prolonged drought. Thousands of people fled along congested roads, whilst the authorities warned that the ‘explosive’ conditions could threaten other communities.
