(LaPresse) – At the European Swimming Championships, Alberto Razzetti has clinched a glittering silver in the 400m individual medley, returning to the continental podium following his gold in Rome in 2022 and his second place in Budapest in 2021. This medal is a testament to resilience and to a young man with a big heart. He was beaten only by Ilya Borodin – bronze medallist at the 2025 World Championships in Singapore – who set a new meet record of 4’08”17, breaking the 4’09”59 set in a rubberised suit by the Hungarian Laszlo Cseh at Eindhoven in 2008. Nevertheless, it was a top-class performance from the 27-year-old from Sestri Levante – who has been based in Livorno for the past five years – a member of Fiamme Gialle and Nuoto My Sport, and coached at the Livorno national training centre by Stefano Franceschi – who touched the wall in 4’10”40 (55”82, 2’01”83, 3’13.53) – not too far off his Italian record (4’09.29) set at the Italian Championships in 2023, when he broke the ‘historic’ 4’09.88 set by Luca Marin in 2007 in Melbourne to win the world bronze medal. Completing the podium was Britain’s Max Litchfield, Razzetti’s training partner until two years ago, in 4’11″58.
