(LaPresse) – Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson has described the regularisation of migrants launched by Pedro Sánchez’s Spain as a “terrible idea”, warning that it could plunge Europe back into a migration crisis similar to that of 2015 and call the Schengen Area into question. Kristersson, leader of Sweden’s centre-right and standing for re-election next month, told the Financial Times that the regularisation scheme in Spain had sparked “strong protests” at the latest summit of EU leaders, as it runs counter to the objectives set by other countries. Leaders from Italy, Germany and Denmark, amongst others, have sharply criticised Spain after tens of thousands of people entered the Spanish exclave of Ceuta at the end of July, although the vast majority returned to Morocco within a few hours. “We must still be very, very careful not to act in a way that even comes close to what happened in 2015. I believe Spain has got the message, but it is showing its vulnerability,” added the Swedish leader.
