I think Italians deserve clarity, and until clarity is also established regarding the relationship between the two men, between Ranucci and Lavitola, which was constant and friendly, I think Italian taxpayers’ money should no longer be used to fund someone who is involved in this sad affair.” Infrastructure and Transport Minister Matteo Salvini said this during a press briefing on the sidelines of a technical inspection at the Rfi construction site of the ‘Pigneto’ railway junction in Rome. “I don’t think Italians should pay the salary of someone who is involved in a murky affair,” the deputy prime minister continued, answering “yes” when asked whether he was thinking of Ranucci stepping down as host of Report. “I repeat, I think those directly involved in this dark, worrying affair should take a break – the League secretary stressed -. I have nothing” against Ranucci, but “at this moment we are paying him. There was an attack, unanimous solidarity, dismay, and now it has emerged that one of his closest friends has been arrested because he is allegedly the mastermind” behind the attack “and he said, ‘I refuse to believe it was him.’ What is behind this? Did someone make a mistake? Did someone underestimate the situation? Did someone plot? Did someone organize it? So, until the Italians who pay this salary have clarity, I believe it is useful to wait for the judiciary to take its course”.
