Rome, Aug. 11 (LaPresse) – A 61-year-old man died this afternoon in Bosco di Corniglio, in the province of Parma. The 61-year-old, who was attending a Scout gathering, lost his life while attempting to rescue a 13-year-old Boy Scout who had fallen down the slope below, where a small stream runs. According to the reconstruction, the 61-year-old fell several meters, repeatedly striking rocks. The Scout leader who witnessed what happened called 112 for help and immediately began cardiopulmonary resuscitation. The 118 Operations Center dispatched the Mountain and Speleological Rescue team from the Monte Orsaro Station, the 118 helicopter from Pavullo nel Frignano equipped with a winch, the 118 helicopter from Parma and an ambulance. The 115 Operations Center dispatched a team of firefighters and a helicopter that took off from the Bologna Flight Unit. Mountain Rescue operators continued cardiopulmonary resuscitation for many minutes, without success, and the doctor on the helicopter that arrived at the scene could only pronounce the man dead. The injured boy, with a probable fracture to his lower limbs, was recovered using mountaineering techniques on a stretcher and handed over to the Parma air ambulance staff, who transferred him to Parma’s Maggiore Hospital in moderately serious condition. The body was also recovered using the same technique once authorization had been obtained from the public prosecutor on duty. The deceased man was the father of two children who were members of the Boy Scouts; upon hearing the tragic news, the children became ill, were assisted by ambulance staff and transferred to Parma’s Maggiore Hospital. The Carabinieri are investigating the circumstances of the incident.
