His statements, contained in a press release issued in English by his office and reported by The Times of Israel, come after several Israeli air strikes hit southern Lebanon, causing at least 11 deaths according to local authorities. According to Netanyahu, Hezbollah attacked the Israeli army, wounding three soldiers, and the Israeli air strikes were launched in response to this attack. Netanyahu also claimed that the target struck was a military one, but that Hezbollah had deliberately ‘placed’ civilians within a military facility.
