Pyongyang (North Korea), Aug. 16 (LaPresse) – North Korean leader Kim Jong-un said he expects an “even more excellent future” in relations between his country and Russia, in a message addressed to Russian President Vladimir Putin, according to North Korean state media on Sunday. According to Korean state news agency KCNA, Kim expressed these expectations in response to Putin’s congratulatory message on the 81st anniversary of Korea’s liberation from Japanese colonial rule (1910-1945). “I am always proud to be able to foresee an even more excellent future for bilateral relations, leading, together with you, the ties between the DPRK and Russia, which have carried forward the history of the common struggle for justice and the precious traditions of friendship,” Kim said in Saturday’s message. The message comes at a time when the two countries have forged closer ties since signing a comprehensive strategic partnership in 2024, which laid the groundwork for North Korean military support for Russia in its war against Ukraine.
