Bunia (Democratic Republic of the Congo), 19 August (LaPresse/AP) – The Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo has reached 5,000 cases, according to figures released by the Ministry of Health, which stated that, as of Sunday, the outbreak had recorded a total of 5,021 cases, including 2,378 deaths. The virus has infected and killed more people, and at a faster rate, than any other outbreak in history. Since the first case was detected, it has spread about three times faster than the outbreak that struck West Africa between 2014 and 2016, which is considered the deadliest Ebola outbreak ever recorded, with over 11,000 deaths.
