Milan, Aug. 19 (LaPresse) — Flavio Cobolli continues his extraordinary 2026 season, securing his 30th victory of the season at the Cincinnati Open. The world No. 10 and seventh seed defeated Spain’s Rafael Jodar (world No. 11 and No. 12 seed) with a score of 4-6, 7-6(3), 6-3. With this victory, the Roman reaches his second quarterfinal in a Masters 1000 tournament and the 19th of his career overall. Two years ago in Ohio, he had already reached the round of 16 before losing to Hubert Hurkacz; this time, however, he managed to go further by defeating a player who, among other things, had recently reached the final of the ATP 500 in Washington and the semifinals of the Montreal “1000.” For Cobolli, this is also his first victory over a Top 20 player on hard courts since last year’s win in Beijing against Andrey Rublev. In Madrid this year, he lost his first “1000” quarterfinal to Zverev. Tomorrow, the two could face off again—even in a rematch of the Roland Garros final—but the German, the No. 1 seed in Cincinnati, will first have to defeat Tommy Paul.
