Naples, Aug. 19 (LaPresse) — The Carabinieri are investigating two Rottweilers found in Nardò, in the Pittuini area, on an estate a short distance from where Giuseppe Pampo, a 72-year-old resident of Leverano, was found dead this afternoon. Officers from the Nardò station found bite wounds on the body, particularly on the head and lower limbs. The 72-year-old was found dead by his family members, who had begun searching for him after he left home around 5:30 a.m. to go to the countryside to pick figs and failed to return. The family members reportedly found the two Rottweilers next to the 72-year-old’s body and risked being attacked themselves before managing to drive the animals away. The cause of the man’s death has yet to be determined; an autopsy—which will in all likelihood be ordered by the District Attorney’s Office—will shed light on the matter.
