Milan, 21 Aug. (LaPresse) – Hezbollah has rejected the US claim that the Lebanese group operates under the control of Iran’s Quds Force, which is affiliated with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, after Washington announced new sanctions and updated its designation of the group. In a statement, Hezbollah said the accusation was being used to justify what it described as a further move to target the group, its supporters and its financial networks. The group accused Washington of using sanctions to exert pressure on Lebanon and claimed that the measures aim to weaken the country whilst protecting Israel. Hezbollah also acknowledged its close relationship with Tehran, stating: “Our close and fraternal relationship with the Islamic Republic of Iran is something we value and are proud of.” It went on to accuse the United States of lacking the “moral or legal legitimacy” to determine the legitimacy or national identity of other groups and countries. Hezbollah concluded that the US sanctions and designations “will not deter us from adhering to the path of resistance”. This was reported by Al Jazeera.
