At the Scandinavium in Gothenburg, Julio Velasco’s Azzurre beat Croatia 3-0 (25-9, 25-22, 25-23) at the end of a match they controlled with authority, demonstrating consistency in their play, solidity in their block-defence coordination and quality in all the fundamentals. An impressive Italian side, with depth in attack and a straightforward, organised back row, who showed resilience during the second set and bounced back despite facing a Croatia side that never gave up. The Azzurre managed the flow of the game with wisdom. Supporting Julio Velasco’s national team were Federation President Giuseppe Manfredi, who arrived in Gothenburg late yesterday evening, and a huge number of Italian fans who had travelled from all over Sweden. The Azzurre are back in action tomorrow, Saturday 22 August, at 3.00 pm, against Montenegro on the second day of Pool D.
