Juneau (Alaska), 22 Aug. (LaPresse/AP) – A small plane has crashed at a remote military airfield in Alaska, killing all eight people on board – two pilots and six passengers. This was reported by the National Transportation Safety Board, which explained that the pilots were unable to see the runway due to fog and had to rely entirely on their instruments whilst attempting to land at the airport at the Cape Newenham long-range radar site, located approximately 725 kilometres west of Anchorage. The victims also included two employees of the US Army Corps of Engineers. Those on board were “dedicated professionals, engaged in a critical mission in a challenging environment”, said US Air Force Lieutenant General Robert Davis, commander of Alaskan Command, the Alaska region of the North American Aerospace Defense Command and the 11th Air Force.
