Washington (US), 22 Aug. (LaPresse/AP) – No agreement has been reached between the US and Canada on tariffs. As a result, the new 50 per cent tariffs imposed by US President Donald Trump on various Canadian products are coming into force. “Tonight, Canada refused to finalise the trade agreement on the terms agreed at the start of the week. Despite the US offer to grant Canada the most favourable treatment among all major exporters to our market, Canada’s new demands and its backtracking on other commitments have undermined the delicate balance achieved in recent days,” said US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer in a statement read to journalists during a press conference shortly before midnight.
